Summer Events on Martha’s Vineyard – “First Friday” in Vineyard Haven

Summer on Martha’s Vineyard provides plenty of opportunities to get your culture fix. The island is home to an abundance of gifted artists, musicians, authors and artisans, who can be seen at local galleries, their studios, the Artisans’ Fair and many local events.

One of the great island events that plays host to many of them is “First Friday” in Vineyard Haven. This takes place on the first Friday of the month in summer (June thru September) and is part of the national “First Friday” movement that celebrates local artists.

In Vineyard Haven this year’s “First Fridays” fall on June 1st, July 6th, August 3rd and September 7th. There will be an art walk from 4-8pm down Main Street that will feature local artists; local musicians playing at different locations along Main Street and at Owen Park overlooking the harbor from 4-9pm and stores along Main Street will also stay open late to tempt you with all their goodies.

The June 1st “First Friday” saw a good turn-out of visitors and locals all enjoying the sunny weather and taking in the sights and sounds along Main Street. Live music performances included The Roundabouts, Jodie Treloar Sampson and the Black Eyed Susans. Stores like Refabulous Décor laid on food for the peckish and artists set up stalls along Main Street and in some of the stores like The Brickyard. Mark & Eric at Lennox and Harvey were open late and partaking in their debut “First Friday” with plenty of folks checking out their modern, general goods for beach and home.

The Main Street events are a 0.5 mile stroll from the Nobnocket Boutique Inn making this a perfect Friday evening event for our guests.

Hope to see you at July’s event!

Safe travels,
Simon
